if you were a fortune cookie, what cryptic thing would you say to me right now?
hmmmm
a familiar scent is about to change
that is your fortune
I feel a huge urge to say "thanks ben" to you.
Huge Urge
How do you control YOUr impulse to thank everyone for everything?
im like a wild stallion
ill knock a fence over and say thanks
How do you like the food in California compared with the last time you ate something in Troy?
hmmm
wild stallions like to eat a lot
in general i like what i eat
but it feels very different from troy, a meal felt more special in that city
hahah
Do you ever still get urges to explain yourself? Or all they all stamped out?
huge urges*
haha
the urge to explain myself isnt that strong any more
You almost uprooted it
i think when you explain yourself
people still dont care
That's cool. You don't really need to since your stuff seems to explain itself for itself.
lol
I saw your new trailer! with Russel. The site's hilarious
I liked the guns and the huge skull with the gun in its mouth
it echoed my own feelings of inertia about living
hahahah
great
the game is about wanting to die
but not being able to
It's cool that you got it in there with partnership with that sweet living space/game making space/idea making incubation dome/funland/discovery zone
I really like that idea because it's what i hope howLAB/WHYlab will be like
oops I explained myself! Ben, what do you do if you accidentally explain yourself without the cover of a metaphor?
hehe
Also, when are you coming back to be honorary king of the kids?
you tell a joke
idk dude
where are you at now?
Troi, Newb Spork
i see
But I really like being a newb
it's the best mask for a troll
hahah
and a spork, despite its seething lameness, is a pretty good tool
oh by the way walter wanted to ask you a question about the new game too: "i notice that in this game gravity is very important, has making this game made you aware of gravity in the world around you, did you have a sort of newton-like inspiration to make it? is this an aspect that you want to keep working on in your games or are your persuing new real-life normals (like gravity) in your games which i often feel are a "test" bed or a dream version of reality"
?*
hmmm
ahahaha
I love walter's questions
they're worded so hilariously
But he yelled at a kid once for suggesting that he was being facetious
He thinks of himself very seriously
ive always been interested in our relationship with gravity & momentum, and digital games are exceptional simulating that. this game is kind of a test bed for this idealized form of movement, a safe space for exploring that relationship. so safe that you can rewind time, allowing you to experience every imaginable permutation of a single movement.
haha
the constraints are sufficiently different from those in our reality, and that's intentional- to allow players to construct a new model, rather than focus on the success of the simulation itself (ie. is that really how a skateboard works?)
You and Russel seem to be a finely oiled machine together. Have you guys improved since the first stuff you worked on together?
lol it was beginning to sound like an interview, so I thought I'd put a cherry on top
lol
yeah we work well together i think
we try to communicate as little as possible
lol
so you both like..just communicate to the "audience"
haha
we just trust each other
with a given task
and if we really care how that task is done, thats what we talk about
haha that's so simple. i trust walter but we talk about every task...i think i need a lot of agreement before I proceed on co-projects
I miss your bensploziti style
also I wish that I had not insulted the white house and had hung out with you and russel and chris and yuliy when you dudes were altogether
I feel pretty guilty/fan-boy/attention-grubbing saying so though. I just think I would have enjoyed it. I was a bit like Pete Doherty back then
Stealing things from Paul Barat
no one cares!
hahaha
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paladin_II
hahaha
^I caught on to one of the things I wondered about your projects with them. I like these archetype games...the Yules has like "Rogue" as his cover photo
"experience designer"
"musician"
performance art is kynda like games because you let the audience experience a tangent universe
yea
Do you think it was luck that turned you into a guy who already knew that and then became a guy who got articles written about him?
hmmmm
